Taniwha Amulet (Fine Art Bronze, Lost Wax Process)

The Taniwha Amulet, was born for my Granduate Exhibition, from a design of twin dragon heads, as the Kaitiaki piece of my ongoing body of work: Project Taniwha. I was after casting, that the negative space within this design, made itself apparent. The representation of traditional Taniwha head in this piece was unintentional, it arose from co-creation with the wairua, (the spirit) in action.

Project Taniwha, examines the emotional monsters within us, which act as both guardians and destructive forces - and reminds us, that the most fearsome of gargoyles and beasts, protect the entrances to our most sacred inner spaces.
